Jake's Charbroil Steaks

This month's artist for the feature on makan-makan with the stars is none other than local singer, songwriter, producer extraordinaire, Reshmonu. We headed to his favourite hangout steakhouse - Jake's at Damansara for a chat. If you're wondering, he's got a down-to-earth personality and is quite the charmer!

The food at Jake's was exceptional...the steak was the 'bomb' as they say... succulent, tender and moist as the steak's are grilled to perfection and the black pepper sauce was the perfect match for the steak. Did I mention that the cashew nut brittle is so addictive??

Itallian Cuisine At Its Best

Met up with local Malaysian celebrity Hans Isaac at his favourite Italian Restaurant called Sassorosso at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, KL.

We had a nice chat and the food was delish!!! If you're there, try their Buffalo Mozzarella cheese as its freshly flown in and lasts only up to 3 days.

Here's a restaurant & food review article featuring a local celeb - Rashid Salleh. We featured Chef Ismail's Retaurant Rebung, located at Bangsar. Nice ambience and good malay food with you are looking for something authentic.

This is not a fine dining restaurant but more "homely" type and you can tell that the ingredients are carefully selected for the dishes.

I love Penang ! How much ? Well just mention the word “Penang” and immediately vivid images of Nasi Kandar, Char Kway Teow and Penang Laksa will come to my mind and I’m already contemplating my next trip there. No other state in Malaysia has such a profound impact on me such as this little island up north.

Known from the British era as “The Pearl of the Orient”, Penang has everything to keep me amused from ancient temples, charming colonial buildings, resorts, beautiful beaches and abundant natural habitat. Penang is also a shopping haven and its mouth-watering culinary delights keep my hungry palate satisfied !

My family and I make it a point to visit Penang at least once a year. One of my favourite destination in Penang is Batu Feringgi, we love to spend hours just sun bathing or partaking in the beach activity such as going for a ride on the banana boat or taking the hi speed jet-ski for some action.

There are lots of things that you can see and do in Penang, one of my favourite is to take a walk along the historical buildings in Georgetown admiring the architectures. Whenever I bring friends over to Penang for the first time, we always make a stop at Fort Cornwallis, a tourist destination to commemorate the arrival of Captain Francis Light.

My ritual before leaving Penang each time would be to stop at my favourite Chendol shop which is "Penang Famous Chendol" near Komtar for a mouthful of sugar and splendour ! I also often stop by Air Itam to savour its bountiful local fruits which are in season before packing a box of Tau Sar Piah and dried nutmeg back home as gifts for friends.

I've lost count of the number of times I have visited Penang, but each trip is never the same, there is always some excitement and adventure like taking a trishaw ride in the bustling city of Georgetown or listening to the monks chanting at Kek Lok Si temple while pilgrims light the lotus candle. There's a feeling of yearning and of belonging when I think of Penang, It is about who I am and what Malaysia represents; different cultures living in harmony and side by side and their abiding love for food which makes every dish in Penang truly flavoursome and mouth-watering !

Getting to Penang from KL : There are many ways to get to Penang, the fastest would be to take a flight from Subang Airport / KLIA / LCC Terminal. The island is also easily accessible via public bus transportation or car as Penang is linked to the mainland strip of Seberang Prai by a road-bridge. Visitors can also opt to take a train to Butterworth and thereafter take a ferry over to the island.

The program I participated in was called WWRP (Writers for Women’s Rights Programme) and we were inspired and trained to write about gender and social injustice. This article was published in AWAM's newsletter.

It seems like a perfect day, I'm, lying on the white sandy beach sipping a glass of pina colada. The wind is blowing my hair and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore is like music to my ears. Suddenly the inevitable happens... my alarm clock rings and I am forced to drag myself out of bed and to wake up to reality.

Why is Monday not my favourite day in the week you ask ? Just as my body is trying to recover from the hectic weekend of activities such as movies, shopping and partying, I need to get back to work which is even more hectic and stressful. That's why I love holidays and living in Malaysia is a total blessing by itself as we are one of the lucky nations in the world having so many holidays in a year.

Gosh ! Monday Blues, I wish it would go away but then again, imagine if you're living in one of the states like Terengganu where you need to go back to work on a Sunday ! Then it'll be Sunday blues I guess.
